Sound of the Week Lesson for /igh/

Language Arts

The sound this week is the vowel combination /igh/ as in light.
Emphasize the /igh/ sound often throughout the day.  Have your child repeat the sound with you.

Put up your sound wall poster.

Handwriting Assignments:

Day 1:  Practice writing the letter "i" on one line of handwriting paper.

Day 2:  Practice writing the letter combination "gh" on one line of handwriting paper.

Day 3:  Practice writing the vowel combination "igh" on one line of handwriting paper.

Day 4:  Practice writing the word "light" one or two times.

Day 5:  Practice writing any of the other theme words one or two times.
 

Activities and/or Art Projects

Play the game... Red Light, Green Light... get the whole family involved.

Color a picture using only light-colored crayons.

Discuss the different meanings of light by talking about the opposites:

Dark - Light

Heavy - Light

You could also talk about how Jesus is the Light of the World.
