Proverbs 6:23

Nursery Rhyme

A Wise Old Owl

A wise old owl lived in an oak,
The more he heard, the less he spoke;
The less he spoke, the more he heard;
Why can't we all be like that wise old bird?

Speech & Vocabulary

Comparing: (at bath time) The blue boat is bigger than the yellow boat.  The wash cloth is wet and the towel is dry...

Indoor Games

Block Towers

For this game you will need a set of blocks.  They can be alphabet wooden blocks, plastic blocks or even soft blocks.  Show your toddler how to stack a tower 2 blocks high.  When this is accomplished show how to build a tower 3 blocks high, then 4 blocks high and so on.  Build as long as you would like!

Classical Music

Grieg: Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Prelude (Morning)

Children's Songs

Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Foreign Languages

(For learning French -- you can substitute with choices of your own in a different language.)

Part One: Learn a song in French -- Frere Jacques
Part Two: French Vocabulary -- la voiture (car)

Optional:  Choose an exercise from an exercise book to use with your toddler daily.

Arts and Crafts

The art lessons will begin at Lesson 11.  Until then just introduce your toddler to jumbo crayons and paper.  Scribble away!

"Furry Bear" from Now We are Six by A. A. Milne

Sign Language

Suggestion:  Teach the sign for CAR.

Outdoor Games

(Depending on the season of the year you can rearrange these suggestions to work for you -- see the outdoor games link above.)

Wind Play -- take a streamer outside and watch it blow in the wind.  If the wind is not blowing you could run with the streamer flowing out behind you.  Wave the streamers through the air.  You may also like to show your toddler a wind chime.  Play with your pinwheels again.

Musical Exploration

Musical Toys -- these are the electronic musical toys that most children usually have or get as gifts.  Get out all your musical toys and explore the different sounds.  Clap along or dance with your toddler.

Omo (Yoruba--Nigerian) from the African Lullaby CD

Sock Puppets -- make a new puppet for your toddler from a clean sock.  You could make a "Wise Old Owl" puppet to go with the nursery rhyme.  You can let your toddler know that this owl is a quiet puppet.  When you bring out the Owl puppet it is time to be quiet.

Nature Study

Choose from the list of suggestions according to the current season.

Art Appreciation

Children's Illustrators Art Appreciation

Eric Carle -- Show your toddler the artwork of Eric Carle in the book The Tiny Seed.
